The new camera that I'm using when travelling, Fuji X-E1, shoots in black and white which pushes me to use the option. It is interesting that taking photos in B & W is a different way of looking for pictures. Tones become very important and so different is the feel of the final image that the whole approach and choice of subject is altered.
Nightime shots gain a resonance that can be missing when colour is present. Atmosphere is heightened and the eye sees other points of focus.
Black and white is great for people shots and gives a reality that seems more real than colour sometimes.
And finally a pattern will leap out where it would have blended into the kaleidoscopic whole. The picture below was to show the bicycling enthusiasm in Chang Mai but in black and white the pattern on both womens' clothes stands out.
