Women who ride motorbikes
These young women, stood out at the women in motorcycling exhibition. Confident, sassy, at ease and enjoying themselves. This picture was recently exhibited at Hastings Arts Forum as part of i24 group show.
I’ve ridden motorbikes for thirty years. I am not the hardiest of riders, initially I rode my Yamaha R100 around London and down to the south coast as a cheap form of transport. My first big bike was a Virago 535. I rode that bike to Portugal and back and it never missed a beat'.
Then my Honda Hornet buzzed me around the country and across Europe twisting around the windy mountain roads of the Pyrenees.
I bought a CBR 1000, a big heavy bike that was difficult to manoeuvre around London but great on long rides across France and Spain.
Then a spell riding scooters while James and I lived in Thailand. Fun, but not real motorbikes. I got a second-hand Hornet on return and finally I’ve bought the Triumph.
I love it, the sound, the handling and the height of the seat.
So at 68 years old I’m still riding and loving it.
Two bikers at the Women in Motorcycling Exhibition. As they said, “our history is on our backs”.
I am looking for female bikers who would be interested in participating in a photographic study of women on motorcycles. Please contact me through the website.
Ride safe.
